SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF BEATIFICATION OF FRA’ ALLEGRA

On the seventh anniversary of the beatification of Fra’ Gabriele Allegra, which took place on the 29^th September 2012 in Acireale, on Sunday 29^th September the house where Gabriele Allegra was born on the 26^th December 1907, will be inaugurated at number 16 of Via Soldato Salvatore Torrisi, in San Giovanni la Punta. The old house, thanks mainly to the donations of the Chinese brothers from Hong Kong, has been restored and will become a place of worship.

"The design choices of restoration - writes the engineer Fabio Domenico Lombardo - they started from the memory of the place. The birthplace of Blessed Gabriel is a space in which the intimacy and warmth of human and family events that have inhabited and lived are clearly perceptible. The idea of ​​restoration begins precisely from these traces and from the premise of preserving and restoring the original consistency of the space, restoring it free from the signs of neglect and ready for a new growth perspective.

"To shore up the costs of restoration – ‘the association Gabriele fra le genti Onuls’, which includes the relatives of the blessed, - a fundraising has also been launched entitled ‘a tile for the blessed’“.

The program of the 29^th September is entitled "Festa della Gioia" and includes: at 9.30 am arrival and welcome in the town hall of San Giovanni la Punta; 10 am opening of the "festival of joy" with animation and moments of shared listening by the Franciscan friars; 11.30 Holy Mass in the churchyard of the Mother Church of St. John the Baptist; 13 hours packed lunch; 15.30 gathering of the participants in the Maddonna della Ravanusa sanctuary and moments of prayer; 16.30 procession with the relic of the blessed, from the Ravanusa to the birthplace of the blessed; 16.45 arrival at the birthplace and inauguration and blessing of the premises where Gabriele Allegra was born; 17.30 moments of prayer.

The house before the rebuilding

26^th, 1907, he was registered on January 2^nd, 1908. His parents were poor, but profoundly religious. The father was a farmer, the mother was a housewife. Gabriele, at the end of the elementary school, entered the seraphic college of San Biagio di Acireale. Then he carried out the novitiate in the San Vito convent in Bronte, where he intensified devotion, meditation and love for St. Francis. He took his simple vows in October 1924, the year in which he returned to Acireale to complete his humanistic and philosophical studies. In Rome, in the International College of Sant’Antonio, he continues his formation in the Franciscan lifestyle. In 1930 he was ordained a priest and in 1931 Father Gabriele embarked for China, to the Hengyang Minor Seminary, in which he consolidated his dream of translating the Bible into Chinese.

Una mattonella per il beato

Spiritual father of small seminarians, he was then appointed rector of the seminary. Living in the lifestyle of the Chinese people allows him to deepen the culture and history of those people and to understand the Chinese language more quickly. In April 1935 he completed the translation of the Holy Scriptures in Chinese and later founded a Franciscan Bible Study in Beijing, inaugurated in 1945. In 1948 he transferred the Bible Study to Hong Kong, and in 1955 he was awarded with the Honoris Causa degree in Sacred Theology, as a recognition of its biblical culture and immense translation work. There have been many journeys that Father Allegra made in particular between China, Italy and Sicily. When asked if he felt more Italian or Chinese he, smiling, in his dialect answered: "sugnu sicilianu, italianu e cinisi” (I am Sicilian, Italian and Chinese).

In the last months of his life, although his health was put to the test, he loved to return to the lepers and polio children. Father Gabriele died in Hong Kong on the 26^th January 1976 and in 1986 his body was transferred to a chapel in the church of San Biagio di Acireale.                                                  

Fra' Allegra - Nel settimo anniversario dalla sua proclamazione a beato, si inaugura la casa natale

In occasione del settimo anniversario della proclamazione a beato di fra’ Gabriele Allegra (avvenuta ad Acireale il 29 settembre del 2012), domenica 29 Settembre, sarà inaugurata a San Giovanni La Punta, la casa  di via Soldato Salvatore Torrisi, 16,  in cui il 26 dicembre del 1907 nacque Gabriele Allegra.

La vecchia casa, grazie soprattutto alle donazioni dei devoti cinesi di Hong Kong, è stata ristrutturata  e diverrà luogo di culto.

“Le scelte progettuali di restauro  – scrive  l’ing. Fabio Domenico Lombardo – sono partite dalla memoria del luogo. La casa natale del beato Gabriele  è uno spazio in cui  sono chiaramente percepibili  l’intimità ed il calore delle vicende umane e familiari che l’hanno abitato e vissuto. L’idea del restauro inizia  proprio da queste tracce e dal presupposto di conservare e ripristinare la consistenza originaria  dello spazio, restituendolo libero dai segni dell’incuria e pronto ad una nuova prospettiva di crescita.”

“Per puntellare i costi del restauro – fa sapere l’associazione “Gabriele fra le genti Onuls”, della quale fanno parte i familiari del beato, – è stata avviata anche una raccolta fondi  “Una mattonella per il  beato”.

Il programma dal titolo “Festa della Gioia”  prevede: ore 9,30 arrivo e accoglienza nella villa comunale di San Giovanni la Punta; ore 10 apertura della “festa della gioia” con la presentazione della giornata con animazione e momenti di ascolto condiviso a cura dei frati francescani; 11,30 santa messa sul sagrato della chiesa Madre  San Giovanni Battista; ore 13 pranzo a sacco; 15,30 raduno dei partecipanti nel santuario Madonna della Ravanusa e momenti di preghiera; 16,30 processione con la reliquia del beato dalla Ravanusa alla casa natale del beato; 16,45 arrivo alla casa natale e inaugurazione e benedizione dei locali in cui nacque Gabriele Allegra; 17,30 momenti di preghiera.

La casa natale prima della ristrutturazione

Riportiamo brevi cenni sulla figura di fra’ Gabriele Allegra. Sebbene fosse nato il 26 di dicembre del 1907, all’anagrafe venne registrato il 2 di gennaio del 1908. I suoi genitori erano poveri, ma profondamente religiosi. Il padre  faceva il contadino, la madre era casalinga. Gabriele, al termine delle scuole elementari, entrò nel collegio serafico di San Biagio di Acireale. Poi svolse il noviziato nel convento San Vito in Bronte, dove intensificò la devozione, la meditazione  e l’amore per San Francesco. Emise i voti semplici nell’ottobre del 1924, anno in cui ritorna ad Acireale per compiervi gli studi umanistici e filosofici.  A Roma, nel Collegio internazionale di Sant’Antonio, continua la sua formazione nello stile di vita francescano. Nel 1930 viene ordinato sacerdote e nel 1931 padre Gabriele si imbarca alla volta della Cina, destinazione il seminario Minore di Hengyang , in cui consolida il sogno di tradurre la Bibbia in lingua cinese.

Una mattonella per il beato

Padre spirituale dei piccoli seminaristi, viene poi nominato Rettore del seminario. Vivere nello stile di vita del popolo cinese, gli permette di approfondire la cultura e la storia di quella gente e di comprendere più velocemente la lingua cinese. Nell’aprile del 1935 completa la traduzione della Sacra Scrittura in lingua cinese e successivamente fonda uno Studio Biblico francescano a Pechino, inaugurato nel 1945. Nel 1948 trasferisce lo Studio Biblico a Hong Kong, e nel 1955 viene insignito della laurea Honoris Causa in Sacra Teologia, quale riconoscimento alla sua biblica cultura e all’immenso lavoro di traduzione. Sono stati tanti i viaggi che padre Allegra compì in particolare  tra la Cina, l’Italia e la Sicilia. Quando gli chiedevano se lui si sentisse più italiano o cinese egli, sorridente, nel suo dialetto rispondeva: “sugnu  sicilianu, italianu e cinisi (sono siciliano, italiano e cinese)”.
Negli ultimi mesi di vita, malgrado  la sua salute fosse messa a dura prova, amava ritornare tra i lebbrosi e i bambini poliomielitici.
Padre Gabriele  muore ad Hong Kong il 26 di gennaio del 1976 e nel 1986 il suo corpo viene trasferito in una cappella della chiesa di San Biagio di Acireale.

Einer der faszinierenden Regionen Italiens ist sicherlich Sardinien, eine Insel, die Touristen aus aller Welt wegen seines kristallklaren Meeres, der Strände mit dem feinstem Sand der Welt, der unberührten Landschaften und der Freundlichkeit seiner Menschen anzieht.

Unter den vielen Plätzen des Paradieses, die diese Insel bietet, befindet sich die Baja Sardinia, nur wenige Minuten vom renommierten Porto Cervo entfernt. Hier treffen wir auf Eliana Testoni, die zusammen mit Ihrem Ehemann Renzo Bongiovanni und Ihrem Sohn Marco die Eigentümer der Baja Hotel Gruppe sind, zu der die Hotels La Bisaccia, Grand Relais dei Nuraghi, Club Hotel und Le Palme gehören.

Es heisst: Hinter jedem erfolgreichen Mann, steht eine starke Frau, was wir in diesem Fall bestätigen können.

Eliana, möchtest Du über Deine Hotelgruppe sprechen? 

Mit Vergnügen. Wir haben als Eigentümer des Club Hotels angefangen, das es schon zwei Saisons gab. Als mein Mann hier ankam, verliebte er sich buchstäblich in Sardinien und insbesondere in diesen Ort. Ich war zu Hause mit zwei kleinen Kinder, er rief mich an und sagte: "Eliana, du und ich werden hier an der Costa Smeralda wohnen, du wirst sehen, es ist ein wunderbarer Ort; ich bin sicher, er wird dir gefallen!“ Für einen Moment war ich sprachlos; Ich dachte es sei ein Witz, aber stattdessen meinte er es ernst. Tatsächlich begann er sich für den Bau eines Hotels zu interessieren. In der Zwischenzeit wurde das Club Hotel zum Verkauf angeboten und wir haben es zusammen mit zwei anderen Partner 1969 gekauft. Unsere erste Saison war 1970 und es war ein grosser Erfolg. Das waren die goldenen Jahre, in denen Sardinien, wie auch heute, von ausgewählten Gästen besucht wurde: Journalisten, Künstler, Sänger und sehr berühmte Leute besuchten uns jedes Jahr. 1984 traten wir in die Gruppe "La Bisaccia“ ein, die wir dann langsam Übernahmen und alleinige Eigentümer würden. Später haben wir dank der besonderen Intuition meines Mannes, der einen kreativen Geist hat, die Gruppe, von der wir sprechen, aufgebaut und die jetzt unserer Familie gehört.

Befinden sich in Deiner Einrichtung Apartments? 

Es war einmal so, jetzt haben wir sie in Suiten umstrukturiert mit den Namen Logge. 

Wieviel Personal hast Du insgesamt? 

Über 450 Mitarbeiter.

Arbeiten sie nur in der Sommersaison? 

Normalerweise fangen wir kurz vor Ostern an und haben geöffnet bis Mitte Oktober, je nach Reservierungen.

Was haben die 4 Hotels gemeinsam und was unterscheiden sie? 

Sie unterscheiden sich in der Art der Gäste, jedes der 4 Hotels hat einen anderen

Kundenkreis. Sie teilen die Qualität, die für mich, ohne übertreiben zu wollen, bis zu "5 Sternen“ reicht. Das "Grand Relais dei Nuraghi“ hat eine Besonderheit, die aus kleinen, sehr zurückhaltenden Wohneinheiten und einem privaten Pool besteht, ideal für Paare.
Uns ist aufgefallen, das der Service im Restaurant einwandfrei ist. 
Ja, das bestätigen unsere Gäste. Wir haben ein grossartiges und sehr professionelles Team, das meisterhaft von dem ersten Maître, Antonello Fresi und dem zweiten Maître Riccardo Centamore, geleitet wird. Das Essen, das am Tisch serviert wird, ist von höchster Qualität.

Kannst du uns ein paar Anekdoten erzählen? 

In diesem Jahr hatten wir viel Spass, weil wir viele Festivals der Vergangenheit, wie das Bauernfest wieder aufgegriffen haben. Wir haben in unserem grossen Speisesaal einen Hof gestaltet, mit Stroh in dem wir Kaninchen und Hühner untergebracht haben. Eine geschätzte Show.

Wer ist Eliana Testoni? 
Eliana Testoni ist die Tochter eines grossen Mannes, der mit dem Titel "Cavaliere della Republica“ ausgezeichnet wurde, weil er in den Vor - und Nachkriegsjahren einer der ersten war, der Kinos besass. Meine Mutter war einer der schönsten Frauen in Rimini. Ich habe meine Jugend glücklich verbracht, ohne jemals daran gedacht zu haben, das ich als "Erwachsener“ ein Hotel leiten würde, selbst wenn mein Grossvater, der Vater meiner Mutter, einer der wichtigsten Hotels in Rimini hatte. 
Wie hast Du Deinen Mann kennengelernt? 
Ich war 17 Jahre und eines Tages als ich einen Freund von mir besuchte, der in der Nähe seines Hauses wohnte, bemerkte er mich; Wir begannen zu daten und verliebten uns. 1965 haben wir geheiratet; Wir haben 2 Kinder, die uns 6 Enkelkinder geschenkt haben. Eine wunderbare Familie.

Die Geschichte von Eliana ist ein bedeutendes Beispiel für Unternehmertun, das darauf abzielt, dem Territorium und den lokalen Ressourcen einen Wert zu verleihen. 

A VISIT AT THE BAJA HOTELS’ GROUP IN BAJA SARDINIA

A TRUE STORY, LIVED AND TOLD BY A GREAT WOMAN

One of the most fascinating regions of Italy is certainly Sardinia, a land that attracts tourists from all over the world for its crystal clear sea, the beaches with one of the finest sand worldwide, the unspoiled landscapes and the kindness of its people.

Among the many corners of paradise that this land offers, just a few minutes from the renowned Porto Cervo, there is Baja Sardinia, where we met Eliana Testoni, owner together with her husband Renzo Bongiovanni and her son Marco, of the Baja Hotels group that counts the hotels: La Bisaccia, Grand Relais dei Nuraghi, Club Hotel and Le Palme.

It is said that behind a successful man there is a great woman; in this case we confirm.

Eliana, would you like to talk about your hotel group?

With pleasure. We started as owners of the 'Club Hotel' which had already existed for two seasons. My husband, when he arrived here, literally fell in love with Sardinia and, in particular, with this place. I was at home with two small children; he phoned me and said: "Eliana, you and I will come and live here, in Costa Smeralda, you'll see, it's a wonderful place; I'm sure you'll like it!". For a moment, I was perplexed; I thought it was a joke but instead he was serious. In fact, he began to take an interest in building a hotel. Meanwhile the "Club Hotel" was put up for sale and we, with two other partners, bought it in 1969. Our first season was in 1970 and it had a great success; those were the golden years in which Sardinia was visited, as also now, by elected guests: journalists, artists, singers and very famous names came to visit us every year. In 1984 we entered in the company at ‘La Bisaccia’, which we slowly took over to become unique owners. Later, thanks to the intuitions especially of my husband, who has a creative mind, we built the group we are talking about that belongs to our family.

Are there any apartments in your facilities?

Once upon a time there were, then we restructured them to turn them into suites called logge.

How much personal do you have in total?

About 450 employees.

Do you work only in the summer season?

Usually we start at Easter or just before Easter and generally we go on until mid-October, depending on the reservations.

What do the 4 hotels have in common and what differentiates them?

They differ in the type of customers, each of the 4 hotels has a different clientele. They share the quality, which for me, without wanting to exaggerate, is up to the ‘5 stars’. The ‘Grand Relais dei Nuraghi’ has a peculiarity that consists of small, very reserved housing units and a private swimming pool, ideal for couples.
We noticed that the service in the restaurant is impeccable.

Yes, it is true, our guests confirm this. We have a great, very close-knit and very professional team, which is masterfully directed by the first maître, Antonello Fresi and the second maître, Riccardo Centamore; the food that is served at the table is of the highest quality.

Can you tell us some anecdotes?

In these years we have had a lot of fun, because we have retrieved many festivals of the past, like the ‘farmer's festival’. We even create the farmyard in our large dining room, bringing the straw and putting rabbits, chickens and whatever else in it; a very appreciated show.
Going to the conclusion of this interview, who is Eliana Testoni?

Eliana Testoni is the daughter of a great man, who was honoured with the title of Cavaliere della Repubblica for being one of the first in the pre and post-war years to owns cinemas. My mother was one of the most beautiful women in Rimini. I lived my youth happily without ever having thought that as an ‘adult’ I would run hotels, even if my grandfather, actually, my mother's father, had one of the most important hotels in Rimini.

How did you meet your husband?

I was 17 and one day, while I was visiting a friend of mine who lived near his house, he noticed me; we began to date and we fell in love. In 1965 we got married; we have 2 children who gave us 6 grandchildren. A beautiful family.

The story of Eliana is a significant example of entrepreneurship that aims to give value to the territory and the local resources.

Una delle regioni più affascinanti d’Italia è sicuramente la Sardegna, una terra che richiama turisti da tutto il mondo per il suo mare cristallino, le spiagge che godono di una sabbia tra le più pregiate, i paesaggi incontaminati e la squisitezza della sua gente.
Tra i tanti angoli di paradiso che questa terra offre, a pochi minuti dalla rinomata Porto Cervo, vi è Baja Sardinia, dove abbiamo incontrato Eliana Testoni, proprietaria assieme al marito Renzo Bongiovanni e al figlio Marco, del gruppo Baja Hotels che annovera gli alberghi: La Bisaccia, Grand Relais dei Nuraghi, Club Hotel e Le Palme.
Si dice che dietro un uomo di successo c’è una grande donna; in questo caso confermiamo.
Eliana, vuole parlarci del suo gruppo alberghiero?
Volentieri. Noi abbiamo iniziato come proprietari del ‘Club Hotel’ che esisteva già da due stagioni. Mio marito quando è arrivato qui si è letteralmente innamorato della Sardegna e, in particolare, di questo posto. Io ero a casa con due bambini piccoli; lui mi telefonò e mi disse: ‘Eliana, io e te verremo a vivere qui, in Costa Smeralda, vedrai, è un posto splendido; sono sicuro che ti piacerà!’ Io, per un attimo, rimasi perplessa; pensavo fosse uno scherzo e invece era una cosa seria. Infatti, lui incominciò ad interessarsi per costruire un albergo. Nel frattempo il ‘Club Hotel’ venne messo in vendita e noi, con altri due soci, nel 1969 lo comprammo. La nostra prima stagione fu nel 1970 ed ebbe un gran successo; erano quelli gli anni d'oro in cui la Sardegna veniva visitata, come anche adesso, da ospiti eletti: giornalisti, artisti, cantanti, nomi molto famosi venivano ogni anno a trovarci. Nel 1984  siamo entrati in società a ‘La Bisaccia’, che abbiamo lentamente rilevato fino a diventare proprietari unici. In seguito, grazie alle intuizioni soprattutto di mio marito che, ha una mente creativa, abbiamo costruito il gruppo di cui stiamo parlando che appartiene alla nostra famiglia.
Nelle vostre strutture vi sono anche appartamenti?
Una volta c’erano, poi li abbiamo ristrutturati fino a trasformarli in suite chiamate logge.
Quanto personale avete complessivamente?
Circa 450 dipendenti.
Lavorate solo nei mesi estivi?
Solitamente iniziamo a Pasqua o poco prima e in genere andiamo  avanti fino a metà ottobre, dipende dalle prenotazioni.
Cosa differenzia e cosa accomuna i suoi 4 hotel?

Li differenzia il tipo di clientela, ognuno dei 4 alberghi ha una clientela diversa. Li accomuna la qualità che per me, senza volere esagerare, è all'altezza delle ‘5 stelle’. Il ‘Grand Relais dei Nuraghi’ ha una particolarità che consiste in delle piccole unità abitative, molto riservate e una piscina privata, ideale per le coppie.
Abbiamo notato che il servizio al ristorante è impeccabile.
Si, è vero, ce lo confermano i nostri ospiti. Abbiamo una grande squadra molto affiatata e molto professionale, che viene diretta magistralmente dal primo maître, Antonello Fresi e dal suo secondo, Riccardo Centamore; il cibo che viene servito a tavola è di altissima qualità.
Ci racconta qualche aneddoto?

In questi anni ci siamo divertiti molto, perché abbiamo ripescato tante feste dei tempi andati, come la festa del contadino . Pensi, creiamo l'aia nella nostra sala da pranzo grande, portando la paglia e mettendo dentro conigli, galline e quant’altro; uno spettacolo molto apprezzato.
Avviandoci alla conclusione di questa intervista, chi è Eliana Testoni?
Eliana Testoni è figlia di un grand'uomo, nominato Cavaliere della Repubblica per essere stato uno dei primi nel pre e dopoguerra ad avere delle sale cinematografiche. Mia mamma è stata una delle donne più belle di Rimini. Ho vissuto la mia gioventù felicemente senza aver mai pensato che da ’adulta’ avrei gestito degli alberghi anche se, in verità, mio nonno, il padre di mia madre, aveva uno degli alberghi più importanti di Rimini.
Come ha conosciuto suo marito? 
Avevo 17 anni e un giorno, mentre andavo a trovare una mia amica he abitava vicino casa sua, lui mi ha notata; incominciammo così a frequentarci e ci innamorammo. Nel 1965 ci siamo sposati; abbiamo  2 figli che ci hanno regalato 6 nipoti. Una bella famiglia.

Il racconto di Eliana è un significativo esempio di imprenditorialità volta alla valorizzazione del territorio e delle risorse locali.
